NOTE: We are hiring teachers in our Columbia, MD location for the following subject areas: Math, English, Social Studies, Science
The full time instructor is responsible for implementing appropriate teaching and grading strategies that assist each student in achieving his/her academic potential while also providing superior customer service to all internal and external customers.
Typical activities include:
• Assists the Department Chairs with development of the annual strategic process for the respective department.
• Paces assigned students according to school pacing plans to maintain student retention
• Grades student work as prescribed by KVE using pedagogical strategies and established KVE grading rubrics that contribute to a climate where students are “actively engaged” in meaningful learning experiences.
• Works with principal and other KVE instructors to produce learning experiences suited to the grade level and to the student developmental level that will enhance student achievement.
• Maintains appropriate levels of phone contact with students and parents.
• Provides feedback on graded assignments, in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.
• Uses effective written communication skills with students on a regular basis.
• Models professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents and community.
• Reviews contemporary educational literature to remain current with information related to job responsibility.
• Responds promptly (within same day or 24 hours) when returning telephone calls and replying to correspondence, emails, instant messages, and faxes.
• Meets established deadlines.
• Conform with and abide by KVE regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions.
A likely activities breakdown (must equal 100%):
• Provides instruction to students in subject area(s) including grading 60%
• Manages student/parent experience which includes student pace management 25%
• Liaising with department, teachers, and principal on school and student issues 10%
• Preparing reports and maintaining standard operating procedures 5%
Experience Required:
• A minimum of a bachelor’s degree with a major in education and subject area.
• Teacher certification in subject area.
• Prior teaching experience is desired.

Part-time Online Instructor Positions
Overview
Gifted LearningLinks is the online distance-learning program of the Center for Talent Development at Northwestern University. We offer over 100 courses to students in grades three to twelve, including enrichment, honors and AP®. The North Central Association of Colleges and Schools accredit CTD as a Special Function School. As such, our students can often use our rigorous courses to add valuable credits to their transcripts.
Enrichment courses for grades 3-8 are three months in duration, beginning Sept. 15, January 15 and June 15 (nine weeks). Beginning September 2008 we will introduce monthly admissions for our honors and AP® courses. Honors and AP courses are nine months in duration, but students have the opportunity to finish in less time.
We are currently looking for part-time online instructors for the 2008-09 academic year who have subject matter expertise and certification in the following academic areas:
• AP® Latin Vergil (Course is authorized by College Board)
• Geometry Honors
• International Relations & Conflicts Honors
• Science, Enrichment (Grades 3-5)
Natural Hazards or Nature’s Revenge; Bacteria – They-re Everywhere!; Dinosaurs-Forget About the Flintstones
• Social Studies, Enrichment (Grades 3-5)
Knights, Castles, Lords, and Ladies, History in the Making, and Pirate Culture
• Mathematics, Enrichment (Grades 6-8)
Cryptographs, Introduction to Theoretical Mathematics, and Data Probability

Online High School Principal Positions: Insight Schools
Locations: Columbia, SC, Brooklyn Center, MN, Denver, CO, Washington (State)
Description:
Oversees, directs, develops, and implements education and teaching programs for the high school. This position is the education leader of the school and has the primary responsibility for the academic success of the students of the statewide online public high school. Telecommuting is not available for this position.
Regularly reviews student performance data and works with local and national teams to develop and implement programs for improving success.
Manages school faculty, responsibilities include but are not limited to, assigning classes, setting expectations, facilitating professional development, monitoring and reviewing performance, conducting regular staff meetings, facilitating a sense of community among instructional personnel, and ensuring faculty satisfaction.
Oversees the resolution of student/parent disputes as they relate to academic policy, teacher performance, etc.
Point of contact for constructive feedback on high school curriculum to the Director of Curriculum and Instruction, and feedback on high school learning systems to the Director of Operations and Technology.
Ensures the execution of school/district policy and the adherence to state guidelines/testing. Develops and embraces a culture of quality service, continuous improvement, and innovation all directed at improving student success and satisfaction; Instills a healthy sense of urgency within the organization.
Works closely with the Executive Director and Operations Manager on school planning, policy, finances, and performance.
Participates in external relations with the community, including district community, state regulatory bodies, and community organizations.
Maintains contact with district partner and School Board regarding the academic success of the school.
Performs other duties as assigned or apparent.
Requirements
A thorough knowledge in education as normally obtained through the completion of a bachelor’s degree in education or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
Principal certificate.
Three years of experience as a principal of a school or in an administrative role at an educational organization, preferable in a high school and experience leading and managing teams. Experience in eLearnng, online courses, or online schools preferred.
Able to work effectively as part of a cross-functional team with team members located at a distance.
Must be wiling and able to teach a course during the first year of employment.
Must possess excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills to communicate and provide guidance and support to faculty and staff as it relates to the academic quality and operational aspects of the school.
Must be results oriented and able to manage multiple projects and activities.

Overview
Insight Schools builds and operates statewide, full-time, diploma-granting, online public high schools in partnership with local school districts and community organizations. Insight Schools’ focus is to educate high-school-age youth who, for a variety of reasons, need an alternative to the traditional public high school experience. The Insight team consists of experienced educators and innovators who have run some of the largest online high school programs in the nation.
Position
We are currently seeking part-time and full-time instructors for all subjects for the 2008/09 school year.
Part-time and full-time status is determined by course type and enrollment and will be discussed with applicant later in application process.

Required Endorsement
An endorsement in the subject for which you apply is required.
Position Description
Our online instructors are responsible for the overall facilitation of assigned courses.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Responding to online students within one school day;
- Identifying and contacting students who have not logged in to class;
- Communicating with students via email and phone;
- Grading and posting grades in the learning management system gradebook each week;
- Communicating with students and parents via phone at least once each semester;
- Conducting parent-teacher conferences, as necessary;
- Leading regularly-scheduled office hour/tutoring sessions each week;
- Communicating regularly with other members of the learning team;
- Completing necessary class/student reports for administrative purposes;
- Advising the Principal and mentors of class and student needs;
- Participating in professional development and training;
- Informally helping to market Insight Schools to students and families;
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Online instructors report to the principal.
Desired Skills
Instructors should have a working knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Word, basic internet search skills, and comfort working with email. Strong written communication and relationship- building skills and willingness to learn new technologies are essential.
