Director, Online School for Girls

The Online School for Girls was founded in the summer of 2009 with the mission to provide the best education in a digital environment to girls around the world. The Online School for Girls is a consortium membership school, originally founded by Harpeth Hall School (TN), Holton-Arms School (MD), Laurel School (OH), and Westover School (CT). In the winter of 2009, the Online School for Girls membership grew to include Atlanta Girls School (GA), Ellis School (PA), St. Mary’s Episcopal School (TN), and St Paul’s School for Girls (MD). The School is the first online school to create single-gender courses. As such, in order to create the best online learning experiences for girls, the School created four pillars for learning: collaboration among student, connection between students, creativity in the classroom, and application to real world problems.

The Online School for Girls is searching for a Director who will manage the day-to-day operations of the School to begin work on July 1, 2010. The Director should have a clear vision for the role of online education in the teaching of girls in the twenty-first century. She/he should be a superior communicator, capable of articulating the mission and philosophy of the School to multiple constituents. She/he should embody an entrepreneurial spirit that includes an aptitude for fundraising and development of a new product. She/he should embrace collaboration as a means for advancing the causes of the School. And, she/he should have management experience that would apply to dealing with the complexities of a School.

The Director will need to lead both the educational and business operations of the School. Specifically, she/he will lead the following educational operations: admissions, accreditation, student academic counseling, curriculum development, faculty evaluation and professional development, and technology implementation. In addition, she/he will lead the following business operations: management and hiring, marketing and communication, business development, fundraising, and recruiting.

The Director will have the ongoing support of the Online School for Girls Board of Trustees. Trustees are representatives from all consortium member schools and have managed the operations of the Online School for Girls through its pilot year (2009-2010). The Board will continue to lead the strategic planning for the School and will continue work to ensure the financial sustainability of the School. .

The salary and benefits are commensurate with experience. The Director should expect to travel approximately 20-25% of his/her time.

Overview: Course Reviewers are responsible for thoroughly reviewing and editing existing course content, assessments, and related materials. The reviewers will identify and recommend changes related to course content, spelling and grammar, course alignment, and content appropriateness for the online environment.

Geographic Location: Virtual

Education/Degree: Course Reviewers must have a bachelor’s degree in the subject area of the course being reviewed and a valid teaching license with endorsement to teach the specific course being reviewed.

Job Requirements: Course Reviewers should have prior online teaching experience in any subject area and must have prior teaching experience (online or bricks and mortar) in the specific course being reviewed and have recently attended related AP® training.

Course Reviewers must be capable of working with a team of educators to meet specific criteria and deadlines.

Course Reviewers must be available to work part-time through completion of the course review.

The American Academy is looking for a Director of Curriculum and Instruction to join our team. The chosen candidate will be responsible for the implementation of the curriculum projects; hiring, training, and managing online instructors; resolving content and instructional issues; and supporting state approval and accreditation activities.

Our ideal candidate has online high school teaching or administration experience, with an interest in open content and instructional best practices.

This is a full-time position located at our school office in Salt Lake City, Utah. Compensation is $55-70k annually, plus performance-based bonuses up to $20k per year.

Key Responsibilities:

*Interview, hire, train, and manage online instructors.
*Develop and implement teacher personal professional development plans and evaluations.
*Work with the CAO to plan and implement various curriculum projects, including the organization and development of digital assets.
*Manage standards alignment and course approval processes.
*Participate in accreditation activities.
*Serve as an escalation point for Student Services to resolve content and instructional issues.

Desired Experience and Requirements:

*Minimum BS or BA from a 4-year college or university
*Minimum 2-year stay at all previous employment
*2-3 years experience in online high school teaching and/or administration required
*Persuasive and engaging written and oral communication skills
*Curiosity and good listening skills are critical. Ability to adapt to different social styles over the phone.
*Excellent organizational skills, ability to prioritize, multi-task and work independently
*Working knowledge of web-based applications for online learning, including learning environments and web-based development tools. Proficiency in Microsoft Office or equivalent.
