Director of public charter school in Idaho

Idaho Distance Education Academy (I-DEA) is seeking a Director for the 2009-10 school year. I-DEA is public charter school serving students statewide in grades K-12 by providing resources and support to students and parents who have elected an education in a home setting. The Director should have strong leadership skills in order to promote the vision and mission of the school. The position is located in the administrative office in Deary, Idaho. Closing Date May 21.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must meet or exceed the certification requirements of the State Board of Education
• Must hold an Idaho Administrator certificate from the State of Idaho or is actively seeking the Administrator certificate
• Master’s degree in Education or a related field
• Minimum of three (3) years of teaching
• Demonstrated experience in educational leadership
• Knowledge of distance education models and best practices is preferred
• Demonstrated skills in technology, including Microsoft Office

PERFORMANCE QUALITIES:
• Posses a passion for student achievement, knowledge of those programs that improve that achievement, and the ability to lead those responsible parties toward that achievement;
• To evaluate instructional direction and provide visionary leadership that will provide effective and, if required, unique and creative solutions;
• Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of educational best practices;
• Demonstrates a management style that values a “distributed leadership model” and encourages input from all employees and constituent groups;
• Is an effective communicator, who can successfully educate the public sector of the vision and mission of I-DEA;
• Ability to oversee strategic planning, including data driven decisions;

• Has an understanding of school finance and can work closely with the business manager in the development of the budget;
• Has the ability and flexibility to manage a wide range of issues in a timely and effective manner;
• Demonstrate the ability to effectively work with legislators, the personnel at the State Department of Education, the State Board of Education and the Charter School Network;
• Has an understanding of the legislative process, staying informed of current legislation and the impact on I-DEA;
• Is familiar with public school law, policy and procedures;
• General understanding of special education and contracted services;
• Understanding of the use of educational technology;
• Ability to use technology effectively including skills in Microsoft Office, XP and email

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Overall responsibility of statewide school operations;
• Directly responsible to the I-DEA Board of Directors;
• Liaison with the chartering district, the Whitepine Joint District;
• Works closely with Business manager in the development of annual budget;
• Responsible for reports as required by the I-DEA Board, State Department of Education and the State Board of Education;
• Demonstrate an understanding of teacher experience and endorsements as it pertains to the IBEDS;
• Supervise and evaluate administrative staff, including the Education, Technology, Registrar and Special Education Departments;
• Liaison with the state level agencies and departments;
• Overall responsibility for marketing and public relations;
• Ensure enrolled students are meeting compliance requirements;
• Experience in identifying and securing additional revenue sources;
• Maintain liaison with social, professional, civic, volunteer, and other community agencies and groups having an interest in the school;
• Attend professional development opportunities as necessary; and
• Willing to travel

The Director, Pinnacle Online High School is responsible for the successful delivery of Pinnacle Online High School and coordinating the delivery of Pinnacle Online High School resources to educational partners under a professional services agreement. The Director, Pinnacle Online High School reports to the Chief Learning Officer and plays a key role as a member of the Instruction Group’s management team.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Core Responsibilities

• Directs and oversees all aspects of the Pinnacle Online High School serving students and adult learners outside the state of Arizona.
• Responsible for developing & measuring key program performance metrics: Student and Instructor Performance
• Creates policies and practices that support Pinnacle Education’s mission.
• Establishes resource requirements and manages the allocation of resources for all facets of the Pinnacle Online High School program.
• Coordinates with other Pinnacle Education teams such as Instruction, IT/Technology, Student Services, Curriculum, Marketing, Sales, etc. to appropriately resource and deliver the programs.
• Supervises program management personnel.
• Develops and establishes procedures and policies governing internal and external communications and reports.
• Provides problem resolution strategies for parents, students and others participating in Pinnacle Online High School programs.
• Develops and manages all aspects of program financials included forecasting, line item budget and revenue.
• Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.

Required Experience:

• BS Degree from an accredited institution in the field of education or related field
• Minimum 3 years educational program management experience or similar experience
• Experience in the delivery of online instructional programs.
• Familiar with a variety of virtual/online learning concepts, practices, and procedures.
• Strong project management skills

Preferred Experience:

• Master’s Degree in related field
• Minimum 5-7 years educational program management experience or similar experience
• Experience working in an online learning environment
• Experience working in an educational call center
• Experience in customer service, customer experience practices
• Experience with local, state, federal laws and trends related to online K12 education
• Strong leadership skills working with parents and students.
