Shirky predicts a revolution based on free collaborative technologies that will lead to 50 years of chaos in communications communities. Based on what I saw at NECC 2008, the ideas are just beginning to trickle into institutionalized learning & we need a little chaos to break the logjam that is clogging innovation in education.
In this prescient 2005 talk, Clay Shirky shows how closed groups and companies will give way to looser networks where small contributors have big roles…

Here’s some serious content to absorb. A great mix of content on issues involving search, google, and everything in between.
UC Berkeley (my alma mater) has established a YouTube Channel. This allows the university much long video (hours and hours) than you typically see on YouTube.
A full page of training videos from Atomic Learning. Solid didactic approach that will help bring 20th century educators up to speed. Vicki Davis is a well known blogger and teacher who knows how to speak to an audience of educators. These videos are provided free by Atomic Learning. You’ll find nearly 40 videos targeted on many specifics involving Web 2.0. A fine Resource. Check it out!
I’ve found videos (Well made ones that is) to be one of the best ways to help teachers understand the big concpet of the read/write web. Here’s a ‘theme blog’ that aggragates online video (and poweroints) about Web 2.0.

Three Ways to Hypnotize a ChickenI was only aware of what the farmer’s almanac calls “the chalk line method’. As our knowledge grows, one has to wonder if PETA will up the anti and begin to picket KFC?(tags: chickenhypnotism)
Three Ways to Hypnotize a ChickenThe Old Farmer’s Almanac reports on three ways to mesmerize fowl. I remain a devotee of the line in the sand method. Interesting data on experiments involving domesticated vs wild fowl.(tags: chickenhypnotism)

Chicken Hypnotism Video This amateur video shows a fellow hypnotizing a chicken in some kind of market place. Weak photography and lack of good close ups make this thin but plausible proof that chickens do freeze when they beak the line.
Podbean – Free Podcast Hosting, Searching and Subscription, Audio Video Blog Hosting From the looks of it, they also give you the blog+host+RSS. So if I were teaching people to make podcasts, I’d probably tell them to start an account. It’s free – it can’t hurt. This system is based on wordpress. Lots of cool widgets and a built in community. I’ll give the free tools a try and see if it ignites my desire to podcast elements of my online classes. I like the idea of organizing reusable content this way. As it stands now I have video and audio files in lots of different places. We’ll see

I don’t want to lose track of this site. Deserves some thoughtful review. I like the choice of courses. May be an excellent model for study of instructional design. Certainly courses like this should be on the minds of both College and Virtual HS designers.
I’m going to sample the Virtual French Course. I’m interested in what their video based presentations can do. It’s been thirty years since I studied French at UC Berkeley (where the most successful lessons were given at the instructors apartment passing around red wine, while we all laughed and practiced our Francais! (We couldn’t meet on campus because the tear gas and National Guard made it impossible to get to a classroom.) Since I’m scheming on a way to get to Paris this year, I’ll add this to my full plate!
