<h3>Essential Duties:</h3>
<p>Design and/or develop technology-based instructional resources to be used in Outreach School(OS) delivered courses, including INBRE courses with primary attention in the development of Math and Science courses. Work in collaboration with the instructional design team which may include faculty. Work in a collaborative environment with colleagues located locally and at a distance, working directly with faculty to provide pedagogical and instructional design consultation to support successful and effective delivery of academic credit courses to students at a distance. Collaborate with the OS Marketing Coordinator in the design, development and maintenance of OS and INBRE web pages, and Web 2.0 Tools for use in marketing, recruitment, and student social networking applications. Advise and assist OS administrators in web and social networking technology and software and their applications to learning environments. Lead in troubleshooting problems with the implementation and performance of instructional design products.</p>
<h3>Knowledge of:</h3>
<p>Computer applications appropriate for development of distance learning courses.  Web design creation, standards and practices.  Established programming procedures and programming languages (html, dhtml, css, asp,JavaScript, PHP, web page creation and web site maintenance).  Principles, procedures and standards of integrated web site structuring and design, including universal design principles.  Available web site software and hardware.  Current authoring languages, editing and authoring tools and related website technologies.  Internet options and functionality and a wide range of internet programming and design tools.</p>
<h3>Skills &amp; Abilities to:</h3>
<p>Excellent oral and written communication skills within an academic setting.  Understand and apply requirements of copyright in a distance learning environment.  Effectively manage time and schedules.  Work independently and as a member of a team.  Use Web page layout and design software.  Evaluate new and evolving website technologies.  Plan effective and organized web site(s).  Work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a distance learning environment.  Troubleshoot, run tests, analyze and resolve web site problems.  Design and maintain web links.  Evaluate and enhance web site performance.  Develop policy recommendations related to web site development and usage.  Translate technical information into user-friendly program documentation.  Demonstrated ability in the use of Web Tools for educational purposes, Flash, XML, Silverlight and videoediting software.</p>

<p>The University of the Pacific has an excellent opportunity for a university-wide Instructional Designer and Coordinator of E-Learning Initiatives. This position is within the Center for Professional and Continuing Education reporting directly to the Associate Provost for Professional and Continuing Education working closely with the Assistant Provost for Faculty Development and the Faculty Center staff. The successful candidate will provide instructional design support for hybrid and fully online courses and programs to be delivered both domestically and internationally. He/She will work with subject matter experts to design, develop and deliver courses that include best practices for academic and training formats integrating multiple technologies and incorporating new media such as audio, video and interactive media. The successful candidate will also coordinate university e-learning initiatives lending guidance and expertise based on online and traditional teaching and learning research.</p>
<p>QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERTISE:</p>
<p>Applicants should have a minimum of three years experience in online instructional design including the integration of technology into both face-to-face and online instruction at the university or comparable level; a Bachelor of Science degree in instructional design, curriculum and instruction, multimedia education, education with online teaching emphasis, or educational technology; an appropriate graduate degree is preferred. Valid driver’s license and eligibility to be insured by the University of the Pacific. Knowledge of instructional design theories, pedagogical methods, and online/hybrid teaching strategies; familiarity with accessibility guidelines and copyright laws; demonstrated ability using academic technology teaching strategies, such as: instant messaging, discussions, web conferencing, blogs, podcasting, wikis, social networking, surveys, exams, and assignments as evidenced by the presentation of a portfolio demonstrating ability to develop courses, best practices, training resources, etc. is required. Ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal, leadership, teamwork and organizational skills; have experience designing and delivering programs and courses for the international marketplace; and have experience working with adult learner programs in a professional and continuing education environment.</p>

<p>Doctorate or terminal degree, minimum of five (5) years experience in a postsecondary institution demonstrating proficiency and understanding of both theory and practical application of learning assessment, planning, and methods in a higher education environment, skill in qualitative and quantitative data collection, analysis, and reporting , knowledge of academic program planning and review or the equivalent of education, training and experience.</p>

The Instructional Designer will have overall responsibility for designing and implementing two new online professional development courses to prepare K-12 educators worldwide to integrate new technology and collaboration tools into the classroom. Job responsibilities include: collaborating with iEARN professional development and technology staff, as well as representatives of a major software company providing new technology tools to design and build courses that will prepare educators to use these tools; developing and offering professional development training to potential online course facilitators and discussion leaders; collaborating with iEARN technical staff on online enrollment and administration of the two courses, which may have up to 100,000 educator participants; and working with iEARN staff and representatives of the software company to evaluate and develop a certification process for educators successfully completing the courses.</a></p>

Work with stakeholders to develop organization-wide training and communication materials, monitor and evaluate effectiveness of software applications and programs, systems, devices, procedures and methods to determine if business needs are being met. Develop system integration strategies and processes for organizational tools.</p>
<p>Required Qualifications:</p>
<p>Bachelor&#8217;s degree in Communication, English, Educational Technology, Computer Science or other related field At least 2 years of related work experience with educational technology, customer support and/or web development Familiarity with desktop software applications, operating systems, web applications and hardware from a web and online learning development standpoint and as a user or technical support person.</p>

<p>7. Evaluates third-party offerings and services for inclusion in program offerings and conducts “build vs. buy” analyses when creating course catalogs to determine whether the organization will create a course internally or license from third parties.</p>
<p>8. Collaborates with all stakeholders to create materials for teacher professional development and training sessions.</p>
<p>9. Develops curriculum and support tools for ESL and Special Education students.</p>
<p>10. Performs other duties as assigned or apparent.</p>
<p>SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:</p>
<p>Includes direct supervision of assigned team members; may also directly supervise clerical staff as assigned.</p>
<p>REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:</p>
<p>A thorough knowledge of curriculum and instructional design as normally obtained through the completion of a Master’s degree in education or a related field, or through professional experience. Teaching or school administration experience preferred. K-12 experience is highly preferred.</p>
<p>Management and leadership experience in a business environment; experience in a for-profit education environment, a content company, publishing company, tutoring services business, or similar experience is preferred.</p>
<p>Must be able to demonstrate a high level of conceptual and strategic thinking and attention to detail in order to establish, goals, objectives, activities, policies and procedures, as described above.</p>
<p>Must be able to demonstrate an understanding of the impact growth and scale have on operational processes.</p>

Work is generally performed in an office environment in which there is only minimal exposure to unpleasant and/or hazardous working conditions.
